L&M's Savannah Summer Survival Guide
Sure, binging House of the Dragon and cranking your A.C. is fine and dandy, but let's spice up your day-to-day (and your Instagram story) by spreading some love to local biz
While we’re totally here for 8pm sunsets, cocktails by the pool, and keeping our summer wardrobe out of storage a bit longer than most, we also know that a Savannah summer is not for the faint of heart. The gnats are a little too friendly, the 472 degree heat index is far from forgiving, and trust us, the humidity is not a fan of your hair no matter how long you spent on it.
Needless to say, if you’re looking for fun ways to beat the heat with some fab local businesses, we’ve got you covered ;) with unique experiences complete with libations and nibbles.
Downtown
Mess Hall Truck Shop, Vinnie Van GoGo's, & Alley Cat Lounge
Owned and operated by our fabulous friends at Mamie Ruth, Mess Hall Truck Shop (308 W Congress Street) offers an interactive hat-making experience with a snazzy selection of patches, pins, and more.
If you’re in the mood to show off your lovely new lid, we’d be lying if we said Vinnie Van GoGo’s Pizza (317 W Bryan Street) wasn’t totally worth the sweat of their outside seating. If you and your crew are looking for a spot that can offer air conditioning and an Aperol Spritz (and hey, we can’t blame you), Alley Cat Lounge (207 W Broughton Lane) is just around the corner.
Bespell & Co. & Circa 1875
We love that our friends at Bespell & Co. (30 W Broughton Street, Suite 205) are on a mission to make magic accessible to everyone, and their tarot card weekend walk-in’s do just that! You can pop-in on your own time Saturday and Sunday, or schedule a reading anytime throughout the week here. Peruse their fab offering of crystals, spell kits, tarot decks and more while you're there and snag one of our handcrafted tarot deck cases to boot.
If you’re looking for a bite and a drink (or two) equally as charming, Circa 1875 (48 Whitaker Street) is located just below, not even a broomstick ride away. Although, their Bee’s Knees cocktail and Filet Mignon would make the flight worthwhile either way.
Salacia Salts, DOKi DOKi, & Savoy Society
Create customized masks, scrubs, lotions, and more at a workshop with our gals at Salacia Salts (916 Montgomery Street). We love that their products are made with the environment in mind (just like ours!), and can totally vouch that making them yourself is just as fun.
Both their shop (148 Abercorn Street) and production studio that hosts the interactive workshops (easily scheduled on their website here), is a quick skip and a jump to our new fave desert spot, Doki Doki (143 Bull Street) — trust us when we say we’ll take a scoop of their red velvet ice cream over the line at Leopold’s any day.
If you’re not looking to spoil your dinner first (boo), it’s no secret we’re huge fans of Savoy Society (102 E Liberty Street). The hot honey margarita is 100% worth the sweat of the 4 block trek, we promise ;)
Starland District
Superbloom, Smol Bar, & Starland Yard
Located in the heart of the Starland District, Superbloom (2418 De Soto Ave) is the cutest lil coffee shop you ever did see and you can’t convince us otherwise. While they offer an impressive array of colorful lattes, wines, and artisan pastries, they also host craft nights Tuesday (collage), Wednesday (watercolor), and Thursday (clay). All supplies are provided, plus they offer GF + vegan options in their cafe. Pluuussss, you might spot a couple LOVE & MOXiE goodies in their swanky selection of local goods, so you know it’s worth the trip!
If you're looking to keep the good vibes going after your shopping, sipping, and crafting, we recommend popping over to see our pals at Smol Bar or Starland Yard (2411 De Soto Ave). We'd be lying if we said you miiiiiight have to fight for a spot next to a fan, but the good eats and summer slushies are arguably worth it. But hey - this is Savannah - you can always take it to-go ;)
Fête @ One for the Road, Lone Wolf Lounge, & Two Tides Brewing Co.
While Fête has a fab collection of pre-made cocktail infusions, they also offer the opportunity to create your own. With herbs, spices, and dried fruits galore, you can customize a flavorful infusion, unique to y-o-u and bring the par-tay home. Fête’s booth in the Starland District’s peachy new pit stop, One for the Road (101 W 41st Street), the cutie mini-mart keeping you stocked on all your munchies & must-haves aaannndddd goodies from loads of other lovely local creators, such as Tribe & Temple, Meaningful Boutique, and Golden Hour Savannah.
However, if the par-tay isn’t headed home quite yet, we might recommend a quick stop at one of our favorite cocktail spots, Lone Wolf Lounge (2429 Lincoln Street). If you need a quick break from the craft cocktail situation, Two Tides Brewing Co. (12 W 41st Street) is also a 10/10.
Dreamhouse Studios & Bull Street Taco
Located above Starland Strange & Bazaar, DreamHouse studios (17 W 41st Street) regularly hosts a handful of funky-fresh workshops. From collaging, ceramics, and laid-back crafting, DreamHouse is home to a handful of insanely talented local artists who will undoubtedly inspire ya, no matter the extent of your artistic abilities.
Exercising our right brain to get all those creative juices flowing is bound to work up an appetite, so you might as well reward yourself with a taco and a spicy marg from our friends at Bull Street Taco (1608 Bull Street) while you're in the area ;)
Cheers! Danielle & Renée
